  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 1 package caramel bits (11 oz)
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 container chocolate fudge frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix the German chocolate cake mix, whole milk, eggs, and canola oil until smooth.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared dish and bake for 15 minutes.
  4. While baking, prepare the caramel filling by melting caramel bits with butter and evaporated milk in a saucepan over medium heat.
  5. After the first layer bakes, pour the warm caramel over it.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips and pecans on top.
  7. Spoon the remaining batter over the topping and spread gently.
  8. Bake for another 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  9. Cool for two hours before frosting with chocolate fudge frosting.
